AutoCAD - BREAKLINE Command

In AutoCAD, the BREAKLINE command is used to create a breakline symbol or a cut line in a drawing. Here’s how you can use the BREAKLINE command step-by-step:

  1. Activate the Command:

    • Type BREAKLINE in the command line and press Enter.
    • Alternatively, you can access it through the Ribbon by navigating to the "Express Tools" tab > "Draw" panel > "Break-Line Symbol" button.
  2. Specify the First Point:

    • Click to specify the first point of the breakline where you want it to start.
  3. Specify the Second Point:

    • Click to specify the second point of the breakline where you want it to end.
  4. Adjust the Breakline Properties (Optional):

    • After specifying the two points, you'll see a dialog box where you can adjust the properties of the breakline symbol:
      • Type: Choose the type of breakline symbol (default, zigzag, or straight).
      • Size: Adjust the size of the breakline symbol.
      • Extension: Specify if the breakline extends beyond the specified points.
      • Scale: Set the scale factor for the breakline symbol.
  5. Review and Confirm:

    • Review the preview of the breakline symbol in the drawing area.
    • If satisfied, click "OK" to place the breakline symbol.
  6. Place Additional Breaklines (Optional):

    • You can repeat the process to add more breaklines as needed by activating the BREAKLINE command again.
  7. Exit the Command:

    • Once you have placed all desired breaklines, press Enter or Esc to exit the BREAKLINE command.

Tips:

  • Modify Breakline Properties: If you need to modify an existing breakline, you can select it and use the Properties palette to adjust its properties such as type, size, scale, etc.
  • Custom Breakline Symbol: If you need a custom breakline symbol, you may need to create it as a block and insert it into your drawing using the INSERT command.

Using the BREAKLINE command efficiently can enhance the clarity and presentation of your AutoCAD drawings, especially in detailed views or section cuts.
